The more I explore #Kbin, the more I realise that redditors and subreddit communities who chose #Lemmy are missing a lot from the #Fediverse.

Two examples:

1. Lemmy instances are not seeing Kbin instances. So, no Kbin users, Kbin replies, etc.

However, Kbin instances can see Lemmy instances. Kbin users can see Lemmy content and discuss. But Lemmy isn't seeing anyone from Kbin, so there is a disconnect in the discussion.

Update: As per Sim, it works on the Beehaw Lemmy instance. See: hachyderm.io/@0xSim/1105379843

Update #2: Also see: gamethattune.club/notes/9fy4kz

-- it is starting to look like an instance-level (configuration) issue.

-- Though we still need information if Kbin users and Kbin magazines appear in searches in Lemmy instances.

Update #3: Another factor I failed to take into account: server load and lots of requests. (Thank you for the reminder! universeodon.com/@pixelpusher2 )

2. You won't see the fediverse on Lemmy. But in Kbin, you can see it through the “Microblog” tab/feature.

See: fedia.io/microblog (We can probably compare that to Calckey's Antennae feature.)

Basically, Lemmy is #Wordpress or #Drupal with an #ActivityPub plugin. If you don't have a non-Lemmy account, you will never know what you are missing. It's like a semi-siloed or semi-walled garden software.

To clarify: You will only see what were posted as “Threads” and the replies to it. But not the regular/ordinary fediverse posts like how it is in Kbin.

Sure, the fediverse can post and reply in a Lemmy community. But those with only a Lemmy account, they only see whatever is available in their instance.

In Kbin, you can also setup a “Magazine” to watch out for certain tags/keywords and make it appear in its “microblog” tab/section.

This way, a user also has an option to see, and interact, with the rest of the fediverse. They don't need to create an account in a non-Kbin instance. It's right there, in Kbin, a click away.

#2 alone is more than enough reason for me to pick Kbin over Lemmy.

You get more interaction. You see more content.

So, yeah, a huge plus for Kbin.

Tested on:
- Lemmy: lemmy.world
- Lemmy: lemmy.ml
- Lemmy: sopuli.xyz
- Kbin: fedia.io
- Calckey: calckey.social
- Mastodon: c.im

Sample thread:
- Lemmy (original): lemmy.world/post/77314
- Kbin (federated): fedia.io/m/lemmyworld@lemmy.wo

Hachyderm.ioSim :blobfoxcomputer: :ferris: (@0xSim@hachyderm.io)@youronlyone@c.im I replied in a Lemmy (beehaw) thread from a kbin (fedia) instance, and got replies back from beehaw users. Edit: though I didn't get any notification in kbin from the replies
DengueDucky :bc:

@youronlyone re: 1, I read that the issue is that kbin has enabled CloudFlare DDoS protection and that is interfering with federation. Hopefully that's sorted out soon.

@DengueDucky That is true for kbin.social, however, I tested on fedia.io. ^_^

@youronlyone oh, then it's indeed a mystery haha
