Turning to the #mastodonHiveMind. #HelpMeFind the name of an #mp3player I had back in the late 90s (maybe early 00s?).

I've looked through pages of image search results. Poured through eBay. Toured the #vintageTech & #portableSound articles & forums.

I mocked up what I remember. Device was this rounded, pear-ish shape. That soft matte black plastic. Screen on the top. Had buttons on the top edges. I think there was an SD slot at the bottom. Maybe buttons on front below screen?

Any insight?

Yep, I still use a portable music player. This bad boy exceeds any phone in audio quality. It can play 192/24 PCM and also DSD. When I'm going for a digital listening session, I'll plug this into a battery powered tube amp with my vintage Sony MDR-V700DJ cans. There is literally no background hiss or noise partly due to being all battery powered. #music #pmp #mp3player #walkman

Several weeks ago I saw a post on my Mastodon feed about someone making (starting?) a business building and selling tiny MP3 players. The picture in the post showed lots of small boxes they were preparing to sell or mail out.

I cannot find that post anymore. Anyone remember seeing it, or know the person involved? #mp3player

Just came through this mini #documentary about #dumbphone users. As someone who is on the path to switch to #digitalminimalism in the long term (after some shorter experiments), it's good to see other people's thoughts about this topic.

My primary goal currently is that I want to reduce the purpose of my #smartphone to be used as an LTE-enabled tablet to be a tool in my backpack for emergencies, and point-and-shoot #photography device in case I see something interesting.

Instead, I'll use a #flipphone and a dedicated #MP3Player when I'm on the go. For communication, I'll use a smartwatch tethered to my smartphone and type answers on it only when it's necessary. Otherwise, I'll just let myself be bored and inspired, looking around myself.

I also got a cool #Linux based #RetroGaming #handheld #console, so that, my #ebook reader and video essays on #YouTube will be my entertainment.

I know, this sounds a lot. However, multiple single-purpose devices make more sense in the grand scheme of things. They make you more conscious about your digital life and condition you to live more, be more present. They also last more battery-wise, which is a huge bonus!

Especially now, when the world is on fire, I think this became more important than ever before. Time for a change for the better!

The PCB of an old Creative MP3 player & voice recorder. It has the year 2007. The rectangular chip is probably a 2 GB flash memory. The square chip reads "Creative CA0212-3AG Q724EPJ 27 2SD07492Y BSH7047.1". The PCB has mini-USB and headphone connectors, a microphone and 3 buttons. The player also used to have a battery, a small dot-matrix display and another PCB with 5 more buttons. Edit: The player was the Creative Zen Stone Plus.

"Stereo" face for @panic #Audion as remote for #AppleMusic playing the new #InExtremo release #Wolkenschieber

i plan to clean up my little mod to the original modifications by zydeco (github.com/zydeco/audion). aaaand i also added experimental cog (github.com/losnoco/Cog) support but it lacks for example the current timestamp at the moment b/c of missing #AppleScript suite properties...

26 years ago this week, Diamond Multimedia introduced the first commercially successful MP3 player, the Rio PMP300. And of course the RIAA sued them almost immediately. I bought one, so this blog post includes my recollections having owned and used one. #retrocomputing #mp3 #mp3player dfarq.homeip.net/diamond-rio-p

The Silicon Underground · Diamond Rio PMP300I had one. It wasn't great. But it was good enough to make the RIAA very afraid.
