#PPOD: This mind-boggling image of the largest planet in our solar system is courtesy of JWST and includes moons and rings. Jupiter's main ring was discovered in 1979 by NASA's passing Voyager 1 spacecraft, but its origin was then a mystery. Data from NASA's Galileo spacecraft, however, that orbited Jupiter from 1995 to 2003 confirmed the hypothesis that this ring was created by meteoroid impacts on small nearby moons. Jupiter is seen in the infrared, with bands shown in shades of grey and the Great Red Spot in white at the four o'clock position. Several bright moons and the faint ring system are also in the picture. The edge of the gas giant appears limned in red.
