When someone says “Ghost Ship” what first comes to mind for you?
Is it an old sailing tale like Davy Jones & his locker?
Abandoned ships found floating with no crew on board like the Mary Celeste?
Or old decommissioned ships that have completed their service and are awaiting the great scrapyard in the sky?
What do you think of?
@yoreexplorers The Rime of the Ancient Mariner
@LitTam aah brilliant! Coleridge? Very atmospheric!
The Sun's rim dips; the stars rush out;
At one stride comes the dark;
With far-heard whisper, o'er the sea,
Off shot the spectre-bark.

@LitTam beautiful ️
@yoreexplorers I think of an old sailing ship like the Flying Dutchman. Reminded me of a time I was by lake Vänern in Sweden during an autumn storm. And I know it sounds unbelievable but I'm almost certain I saw the outlines of a viking ship with sails up in the mist.
@Elagabalus what an amazing experience! The thought of a group of ghostly vikings sailing across ancient lakes for eternity is immense. Sounds like a film!
@yoreexplorers I'd tend to immediately think of a tall boat with tattered sails emerging from the mist.
@GreyElm this is what comes into my mind most often too!
@yoreexplorers Wagner’s “Der fliegende Holländer”.
@operaimmagine another great answer! I have not heard it - will have to give it a listen!
@yoreexplorers@toot.communitI think of abandoned ships sailing with ghostly crew onboard.
