An interesting linguistic phenomenon, seen on a billboard in Taichung a few weeks ago.
The sign says “Billboard for rent, contact Yang on 0932-etc”.
What’s interesting is the apostrophe and “r” after the surname. I’ve never seen that before. Does it mean “Mr Yang”? If so, would the alternatives be “楊’rs” and “楊’s” for “Mrs” and “Ms”?
Alternatively, is Yang a Cornish pirate, and they just add an “rrrrrr” to the end of everything they say?
