I was far away so its not a very good shot but this is my first encounter with and photo of a blue grosbeak. I've seen and photographed the rose-breasted grosbeak but I didn't know the blue existed prior to this photo.

It's always fun to be surprised by a new-to-me species and the blue has incredible plumage!

Blue grosbeaks have deep blue plumage, black and blue wing and back feathers with brown and black epaulets on the wing shoulder, dark eyes, a silvery-black upper beak and a silvery-grey lower beak, and grey legs and feet.
