The US has no dedicated high speed rail lines (the north east is a shit show, we have “upgraded” lines which do not travel at high speeds for many reasons)…China, Europe, Russia, Japan, and Monaco all have high speed lines.
They’ve been around since 1964.
In 1903, a train went 128.4 miles an hour and on the front range in 2023, we’re fighting to get passenger rail that’s slower than driving.
Our infrastructure is embarrassing.
How about high speed rail?

Throwing up an unreliable passenger train that's slower than driving, on a freight line is a waste of money.
We need to invest in up to date infrastructure.
Infrastructure and planning in the US is pathetically out of date. It's so out of date we can literally go almost anywhere else and learn from them.
We're so far behind just getting up to speed would save lives...the blueprints are there just dont plan like we're in the 1950s. #urbanism #urbanplanning #rail #transit
@ZuriBella I used Amtrak from Erie Pa- Denver Co in 2012. Not keen on flying so I decided to try the rail.
Never again. Yes, very slow, dirty & didn't feel that safe. Was it an experience, yes.
But, I thought then, why not high speed as you just suggested. Why are we so behind the times? #Trains
@ZuriBella One challenge is that it is indeed expensive. Requires new rail lines and in, for example, San Jose Corridor, this would require demolishing structures, building tunnels and bridges.
